Best Lunch and Snack Containers for Back to School
As we begin a new school year, I am sorting through our snack containers, lunch boxes, cool packs and all the other accessories. Here are my favorite items.

Lunch Containers
Yumbox has been our go-to choice for lunches in both pre-K and now in elementary. We have mainly used the 6 compartment "original" size and the 4 compartment Panino. The 4 or 5 compartment Tapas size container is another great option for older kids. The Tapas container is about an inch longer and wider - which might make for a tight squeeze into some lunch bags. We hand wash the outer container and but the inside section in the dishwasher.
Snack Containers
Sistema containers have been a longtime favorite. We use the 2 compartment option the most, but also love the single compartment as well as larger 3 compartment. The containers are easy for kids to open, but are leakproof and easy to wash.
With 8 possible sections and removable dividers, this container allows my kids to pick all the snack choices. These are not only great for school but also for travel when you want to have multiple snack options available. They come with labels that wash away in the dishwasher.
We mainly use these when including a dip or sauce. I feel like the Yumbox seal really prevents any leaks.
Lunch and Snack Bags
An excellent choice when you do not want to deal with ice packs. You just freeze the whole bag.
The Pottery Barn Kids lunch boxs hold up well for multiple school years and are easy to personalize. I wash them in the washing machine and let them air dry. We like the cold pack size which has an interior of 8.75 inches wide x 3.5 inches deep x 7.5 inches high.
**The interior of Pottery Barn’s classic lunch box is 7 inches wide x 3 inches deep x 7.5 inches high, so the Yumbox Original and Panino recommended above would not fit as it is 8.5 inches wide.
Durable and easy-to-clean, we use the Funkins bags for snacks.
